Clary has lived in a home for the blind for 35 years and is completely institutionalized and unable to care for himself.
Clary is taught to use his white stick in the safe environment of a local school. He walks through the corridors and up and down the stairs under close supervision.
Nelly lives in a tower block and gets a visit from a home help for two hours once a week. She travels on bus routes she is confident with, goes to the craftwork centre to catch up with gossip and attends all the social events even though they are few and far apart.
